Neuro Linguistic Programming – more commonly referred to as “NLP” has been around since the 1970’s, co created by Dr.Richard Bandler and John Grinder. It is concerned with how we process information around us, memories, language and ultimately how we can control our own behaviour. Since we cannot really control very much else in life, and life happens, to all of us through our senses, this is what we need to focus on to achieve whatever we want. It’s methods, tools and techniques have been tried and tested over the years and have shown astounding results.
NLP is amazing in that it works fast – usually within as little as 5-6 sessions (or often even less) one can expect to see big changes.
Instead of focusing on past events, discussing continuously the things that upset the client, NLP helps clients to look forward and deal with issues to achieve solutions towards positive outcomes. NLP is different to counseling and other talking therapies because of this and is particularly beneficial where people find it difficult to express themselves clearly or revisit emotional events. We know that what has happened in the past cannot be changed, only acknowledged and accepted. The techniques and language used in NLP helps clients to change how they feel about situations, giving them more control over their emotions instead. How we feel about something can alter our behaviour, outlook and provide us with new perspectives. Therefore, mastering emotions is the key outcome of this therapy. A very useful tool to have in any situation!
